Research Themes

Following on the work which Professor Nicholas Hammond began with his published book, Gossip, Sexuality and Scandal in France (1610-1715) (Oxford: Peter Lang, 2011), the main research will be devoted to the 30-volume collection of 17th- and 18th-century songs and poems, preserved in an 18th-century manuscript and known as the Chansonnier Maurepas, now held in the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.

This site contains both the texts and the performances of the pieces.

This project was initially supported by the Cambridge Humanities Research Grants Scheme and the British Academy Small Grants Scheme.
